Getting around

Public transportation

Brno boasts an incredibly efficient, eco-friendly public transit network consisting of trams (famously called "šalina" by locals), trolleybuses, and buses. It runs seamlessly 24/7, with a highly synchronized network of night buses ensuring you can get safely to any part of the city at any hour.

  • Complimentary Passes: All conference participants will receive complimentary public transport tickets/passes for the duration of the conference, valid for unlimited travel within Brno's core city zones (Zones 100 and 101).

  • The "Beep & Go" System: If you travel outside the pass duration, Brno uses a simple, modern contactless fare system. You do not need a paper ticket; simply tap your contactless bank card, smartphone, or smartwatch against the yellow validator immediately upon boarding any vehicle. The system automatically calculates the best fare for you and caps your daily spending at 90 CZK (the price of a 24-hour ticket). Note: If your ride is under 15 minutes, remember to tap out when leaving the vehicle to be charged a reduced rate.

  • Route Planning: You can plan your routes effortlessly using Google Maps, Mapy.cz, or Moovit. For local timetables and real-time connections, use the official IDOS app or the IDS JMK Poseidon app.

Taxi & Ridesharing

Getting around by car is highly reliable in Brno. Traditional taxis can be found at designated ranks near transport hubs. However, for transparent pricing and ease of use, app-based ridesharing services work flawlessly across the city. Both Uber and Bolt are fully operational in Brno. Additionally, you can use Liftago, a popular Czech app that aggregates fully licensed, professional local taxi drivers and lets you choose your driver based on price, arrival time, or vehicle type.

Walking

Brno is an exceptionally compact, green, and highly walkable city. The entire historic old town is a pedestrian zone, meaning that hotels, world-class restaurants, historic monuments, and conference venues are virtually within arm's reach of one another. Walking is often the fastest—and most enjoyable—way to experience the city's vibrant atmosphere.

Practical information

  • Currency & Payments: The local currency is the Czech Koruna (CZK). However, Brno is almost entirely cashless—contactless card and mobile payments (Apple Pay/Google Pay) are accepted everywhere, from high-end restaurants to local market stalls.
